Finding your Passion-My Journey

You Are Your Choices

I hope to inspire you and motivate you to grow.

My journey through self-development began during the summer of 2017 and I didn’t plan it. The department I worked for moved to a location that was an hour from my home. My office was already a toxic environment with low morale so this long commute was only adding to my unhappiness. There was no option for me to leave; the pay, benefits and retirement plan were far better than my happiness, right? So what I wasn’t happy. So what the climate was terrible and all my colleagues were negative. So what my work environment was toxic? Right? Wrong! We are what we surround ourselves with. I found myself negative and argumentative. I was rarely happy and started to have issues with my teenager at home. Something needed to change but I didn’t know what or how.

My husband is an inspiration to me in so many ways. He is positive and always finds the good in every situation. He is an avid paraglider. If you don’t know what that is, google it, it is an amazing sport. He found his passion in paragliding many years ago and this balances his life. He has his career, his family and an activity that he is addicted to. I don’t use the word addicted lightly here because he is addicted to it in a very healthy way. Seeing his addiction to paragliding made me realize I needed my own addiction. The problem was, I didn’t know what I loved, I didn’t have a hobby, nor did I know where to start to find one.

One hot summer day my daughter’s friend and mom came to visit. I didn’t know at the time that the mom was going to become one of my best friends. I rattled on to her about my unhappiness at work and my desire to find a hobby. She listened intently to me and also shared her stories; we had lots in common. She mentioned at one point that she listened to Ted talks, I didn’t know what these were. She sent me some suggested podcasts to listen to and I instantly was drawn in. They inspired me to think about myself and my life. I suddenly didn’t mind the commute to work, actually I looked forward to those 2 hours each day in the car listening to podcasts.

At the same time another one of my best friends was into online marketing. She is a professional Makeup Artist and not only makes brides and their bridal parties beautiful, but she teaches makeup tips and tricks online while also selling all natural skincare and professional makeup to supplement her income. She always talked about personal development, podcasts, YouTube speakers and books she had read or listened to. I saw her improve areas of her life and saw her grow as a person. She inspired me, she intrigued me and eventually drew me into the world of online marketing.

The final piece to the beginning of my journey was yet another best friend of mine who showed me the strength to juggle family, a job and a hobby. She has 4 children, works and has a passion for party planning…which keeps her up until 2 am sometimes because she loves it so much. Her passion for party planning is what also inspired me to find a passion that I loved. She juggled life and always found time to do what she loved!

From July 2017 to March 2018 I listened to many books, podcasts and Ted Talks. I was a month away from my 40th birthday and was going through some transformation, trying to find out what made me tick and what I loved to do. I always came back to the same things: I love to learn, teach, write and lead. In March I finally decided to start my own website and online marketing business. I invested $9.99 into a domain name, https://fortyandyonder.com/, another $168 into a starter Kit with LimeLife by Alcone and jumped in full force with online marketing…I decided I wanted to own my own business!

March was exciting but a pretty bad disaster.I wanted to do everything all at once; create a website with a blog, a Facebook page and group, Instagram, google+ and YouTube accounts. Needless to say it consumed me and my family was put on the back burner. Re-evaluation was in session.

April was exciting and more organized. I decided to stick primarily with one social media, Facebook. I deleted the Facebook page and a group I had created and focused on building my brand right on my personal Facebook page. This was a big decision for me as I didn’t want my colleagues and family to see what I was doing, stupid right? Part of growing personally is doing things that make you happy without worrying about what others thought…I had gotten to this point and boy did it feel good. I made some sales and my first commission check came, $155.32. This was awesome to me because in my mind I thought it would be nice to have an extra hundred a month and here it was. At the same time the women who bought the products were emailing me saying how thankful they were for my online tutorials and advice. I was feeling pretty good.

May continued to be exciting. Finding podcasts and motivational speakers to listen to started to get difficult because I had listened to everything! Limelife had a ton of training videos from the top earners, so I began to save those videos to listen to on my commute. These videos inspired me to grow my business even more. These top earners were just like me, real people looking for something to call their own and I knew if they could do it so could I. I also had another woman join my team, which was super exciting because now I could help guide her through this journey of online marketing. The best part of building a team is the friendships that form.

June was the month I decided to make a plan and set real goals. I took out that journal I had bought a couple months earlier and started to write. Balancing my family life, career and my online marketing business was getting easier. I had written a couple blogs on my website, began to brand myself as a Healthy Life-stylist by meal prepping and posting workouts. I discussed the importance of using products that were natural and gave online makeup tutorials. My sales were continuing to grow and everyone was happy. The messages came in from so many people saying that I was an inspiration to them. This was such a driving factor for me. Believing in yourself is the first step to success, I believed in myself and the power of the personal drive.

July continued strong and my determination only grew. I had set a goal for myself to hit $300 in commission and my paycheck was $317.12. Ladies, if you are reading this, I hope this inspires you. You can do anything you set your mind to. It is now August, my 6th month owning my own online business and I wouldn’t change a thing. I continue to self-develop and learn about strengths and weaknesses while helping other women find theirs. I can truly say that I have found my passion, my hobby, my addiction in owning my own online business.
